Welcome Back, Social Work Club! Leadership Training + Officer Elections

Hello Governors,

Welcome back! I hope your summer gave you time to rest, and I am glad to have you returning to the Social Work Club. This is going to be a good year, and it starts with all of you.

Before we look ahead, I want to look back for a moment. Thank you to our outgoing President, Jacklyn Shires, and our outgoing Vice President, Jorge Haro. Their service to this club has been invaluable — they showed up, they followed through, and they set a standard of leadership that made this club stronger than they found it. The good news is that we are not losing them. Both will continue on in mentor roles, so their guidance and institutional memory will still be available to our next set of officers. Please join me in thanking them.

Now, a few things to put on your calendar right away:

Leadership Training — Thursday, September 3, 2026 | 4:00–6:00 p.m. | HPB 300E
This training is for anyone currently serving in an officer role, as well as anyone thinking about throwing their hat in the ring. Come learn what the roles involve, how the club runs, and how to lead well before elections take place.

Annual Dues — $20
Dues are $20 for the year and must be paid in order to have voting access. If you want a say in who leads this club and how we spend our time, please get your dues in early.

Officer Elections — Early This Semester
We will be voting in new officers soon. If you would like to be considered, send your letter of consideration to Jshires@students.apsu.edu or wilsondr1@apsu.edu. Do not talk yourself out of it — if you are wondering whether you are ready, that is usually a sign you should apply.

I am looking forward to a semester full of activities, networking, and community service. Bring your ideas, bring a friend who has been thinking about joining, and let's make this a year worth remembering.
